Pray on Sunday, October 15, 2017
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit. - Psalm 34:18
The tragedy in Las Vegas is the single largest mass shooting in American history. Together we mourn the grief and loss. We invite churches across America to pray together for the survivors, on Sunday, October 15. Survivor Sunday is an invitation to join together in prayer for the families and friends who’ve lost a loved one to this act of gun violence in Las Vegas, and to acknowledge and pray for the tragic loss of 30,000 lives to gun violence each year.
Compassion for the survivors of gun violence is rooted in Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), where Jesus commands us to love our neighbors, which includes strangers and anyone caught in the crossfire of violence, regardless of their faith, ethnicity, or which “neighborhood” they come from. With deep compassion, together we pray for Jesus to restore broken lives and also to protect us each from future gun violence.
Gun violence is taking too many lives in our country. Every life is precious to Jesus!
- More than 2 million people will die from gun violence in your lifetime.
- Gun violence is the 3rd leading cause of death for children in America.
- More people die from gun violence in the USA than any other country.
- One mass shooting occurs almost every single day in America.
- Innocent women, children, and babies account for nearly half of all gun related deaths.
